8 Tips to help boost your immune system this Autumn and beyond.

The immune system is a vital part of your bodies defence against bacteria and viruses.

What we eat and drink plays an important role in protecting the immune system, as well as how we think and feel. Stress, grief and other emotional disorders can impact your immunity, so it’s only natural that we advocate exercise and also rest as part of the solutions for boosting our immunity. So here are 8 tips to help boost your immune system this autumn and beyond.

    1. Eat a balanced diet rich in protein, vegetables and fruit. Protein repairs tissues and fights off bacterial infection. While fruit and veg provide nutrients like beta-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E as well as iron (especially leafy greens) —that can boost immune
      function. Try popping your fruit and veg into a smoothy for a quick fix.
    2. Drink plenty of water – 8 glasses or 2 litres per day. Water carries oxygen to your body cells which help our bodies to function properly. It also helps remove toxins from your body which can have a negative impact on your immune system.
    3. Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption! Need we say anymore? However if you decide to have a drink, please do it in moderation.
    4. Develop a regular exercising regime. Even just incorporating and few long brisk walks into your weekly routine can make all the difference. If you can try to do 1 -2 hours of exercise at least 3 times per week.
    5. Avoid stress. Work, home life, lack of sleep, money worries etc can all lead to stress. So in a world of chaos find time to destress, and be at peace. Even 5 mins of quiet time to just close your eyes and breathe can take the edge off. Other examples include a soak in the bath, massage, being in nature – sitting in the park, gardening etc. Whatever it is that keeps you calm, add it in to your daily life.
    6. Practice visualisation techniques and affirmations to give your immune system an extra boost. What do we mean by this? Well, we believe positivity helps in all areas of life but for immunity visualising your body being in optimum health can give you an overall sense of wellness, as opposed to focusing on aches, pains, discomfort etc which only heightens those negative feelings. Also affirming good health is great. Try saying “I have a good immune system and my body is in optimum health” everyday to enhance this healthy feeling. Remember you have to believe this to be true for it to work even, if you don’t feel it in that moment call it in to existence.

    8. Create good sleep habits. Getting sufficient hours of high-quality sleep enables a well-balanced immune When you’re not getting adequate sleep, your immune system has a harder time healing from existing health issues and fighting off new illnesses. It helps to have a relaxing routine to prepare yourself for sleepbefore you go to bed so that you can get good 7 – 8 hours, for you body to rest and recover from the day.
